Phone Focus Groups

Hey everyone, welcome back! If you’re here watching, I really appreciate you. In this shorter module I’ll introduce you to phone focus groups.

Phone focus groups require that you dial in and participate in a live discussion. They’re great if you’re not comfortable on camera or just prefer audio only. You’ll still be talking with a moderator and sometimes a few other participants, so it’s an interactive experience — just without the visuals.

In most cases, phone studies today are one-on-one interviews rather than full group discussions. That can be a nice advantage because you don’t have to compete for speaking time — it’s just you having a direct conversation, which can feel a lot more relaxed.

But on occasion you may find yourself in a group discussion with other participants. Sort of like an old school party line but without the chaos.

As an example: The pay for phone studies is $50 to $100 for 30 to 60 minutes, sometimes a bit higher if it’s more specialized. They’re also usually very straightforward — no tech setup, no camera, no worrying about how you look on screen. You can take the call from anywhere quiet and just focus on the conversation.

A quick note: this format has been mostly replaced by Virtual focus groups—but on occasion you will definitely see a phone focus group at some point.

As a reminder, if you haven’t done so already, you can earn a little extra while you’re going through this course by scrolling down after this video ends and clicking the red button that says see platforms and start earning. How it works is you sign up with as many platforms as you want, for free, and check them out. There’s something for everyone.

That’s it for this module, nice and short, you got to rest. In the next module we’ll discuss In Person focus groups. Grab a cup of coffee or your favorite beverage and let’s go! See you there.
